A strong, unified organization of library associations in Manitoba, with an active and engaged membership is integral to the ongoing growth and development of our library community.
As you may know, the Manitoba Libraries Working Group has been working together over the past couple years to find a way to unite the library associations in our province under one umbrella organization. The Working Group believes that a coordinated, collaborative and integrated approach will ensure a unified voice for advocacy, stronger representation for all library and information workers and fiscal efficiency and responsibility.
The plan we have drafted looks at investing our efforts and resources into a new association which supports the needs of all library sectors and encourages the continued growth and development of the library community in Manitoba.
On September 20, 2016 the Manitoba Libraries Working Group will hold its final Town Hall to present its proposal on a new united Association and to discuss the work of the group since the May 5, 2016 Town Hall. A streaming opportunity through Adobe Connection will be available for those groups or individuals that cannot attend the Town Hall in person.
It is critical that you consider attending this Town Hall. By doing so you will learn about the purpose and goals of a new association, the proposed organizational structure and membership fee model. The future plans for a united association and the proposed financial structure required to support these objectives. Your input at this Town Hall will give critical direction to the work of the group and help shape the future of the Manitoba library community at local, provincial, and national levels.
The Working Group has established a website where you can find more information and help better prepare you for the Town Hall event. http://mla.mb.ca/mblibraries/ The Working Group welcomes your questions, comments and feedback to the form found on the site.
Please forward this invitation on to your colleagues and networks – the Working Group is seeking broad participation and input. Please join this discussion and assist in creating a stronger library community in Manitoba.
